Man gets 15 years for a drunk driving crash that killed a young couple

Esparza

Ivan Esparza pleaded guilty to two counts of manslaughter for a drunk driving crash that tragically killed Chantae and Danny Reed Jr. last year.  Esparza was sentenced to 15 years in prison.

At the time of the crash, Esparza had a blood alcohol level of .271 (more than three times the legal limit)when he slammed into the rear of the Reeds’  SUV, forcing the vehicle into a concrete wall where it then burst into flames.   Police believe that Chantae Reed tried to rescue her husband but was overcome by smoke and fire.  Sadly, Chantae and Danny were only 24 years old — they had been married for four years.

Danny Reed Jr. told the Dallas Morning News:  “You always think this will happen to somebody else — until it happens to you,” Danny Reed Sr. said. “Then you get the full impact of what a parent goes through losing a child. Now I have a lot more compassion.”  See the Dallas Morning News article here.
